The Department of communication engineering was established in 2002, formerly known as the communication group of the Department of electronic engineering. It was initially established as the "Department of telecommunications engineering" and renamed as the "Department of Communications Engineering" in 2003. In the same year, the "Institute of information and communications engineering" was established to recruit postgraduates of the master's class, which was renamed as the "master's class of the Department of Communications Engineering" in 2018. After many modifications, the enrollment structure has become more and more stable. At present, one class of master's degree students and two classes of four skills in the day Department of University Department are recruited every year. The students recruited by the four skills department mainly come from the departments of electronics, information, motor, power machinery and so on.

        The department has always been aiming at cultivating talents in the industry and developing innovative practical application technologies. Through many consultant meetings and exchanges with the industry, "microwave communication" and "multimedia communication" are regarded as The two major directions of the current development of the department. Thus curriculum planning, laboratory construction, equipment procurement, special research and industry-university cooperation are also working towards these two aspects, in order to improve students' knowledge and the development of the department.
